ITB Again!

Internationale Tourismus-Börse Berlin. The name stands for a unique success story which has been made in Berlin. What began in 1966 as a small event of an overseas import trade show has developed into a true global success. The original 5 countries (Egypt, Brazil, Federal Republic of Germany, Guinea and Iraq) participating have grown into over 180. Now, ITB  is the world’s leading travel trade show with over 10.000 exhibitors and 190.000 visitors focusing on trading tourist destinations, like Moldova. The event showcases products and services like tour operators, hotel business, tourism associations, travel technology, information and reservation systems, travel agencies while highlighting  business  and leisure travel.

It enjoys worldwide media recognition by being organized by an experienced exhibition management company, that successfully faces new aims and objectives again and again – namely Messe Berlin.

Nearly five decades since and it’s still an event in full growth with important societal changes, like:

  • 1966: September launch with 9 exhibitors from 5 countries
  • 1973: For the first time every European country is at ITB
  • 1977: First 100 countries exhibit at ITB
  • 1985: Debut of tours for disabled
  • 1986: China represented for the 1st time
  • 1992: Over 150 countries attend. Key topics: environment protection and human rights
  • 1995: ITB reduced for 1 day. Last day reserved for trade visitors.
  • 1999: First MICE Day. Over 8.000 exhibitors
  • 2005: First Aviation Day. Over 100.000 visitors attend
  • 2010: LGBT section launched
  • 2014: Key topics: Data protection and luxury travel
  • 2016: 50th ITB Berlin

A many layered history promises growth and new concepts in the future.
